In 2016, Dr. D.E. Osto (aka "Dee") (pronouns: they/them) came out of the psychedelic closet with the publication of their seminal work, "Altered States: Buddhism and Psychedelic Spirituality in America" (Columbia University Press, 2016), in which they explore the complex and fascinating cultural history of "Psychedelic Buddhism."

In their epilogue, Osto demonstrates self-reflexivity in providing an account of his own personal history with psychedelic substances and non-ordinary states of consciousness.

When this live interview was recorded in 2021, Dee had recently come out of the 'gender closet' and was breaking ground on a new book project that explores gender, psychedelics, and technology.
